The City of Hermosa Beach is working to develop a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP). The goal of the Local Roadway Safety Plan is to identify roadway improvements and countermeasures as well as enforcement, education, and emergency services strategies that can improve traffic safety in Hermosa Beach.
To inform these countermeasures and strategies, the City’s Department of Public Works, Police Department and its consultant team, Toole Design, is conducting an analysis of traffic collisions in Hermosa Beach using data from past traffic collision reports and seeking community input on areas or points of traffic safety concern.
Your input on traffic safety concerns and community-identified traffic safety needs will complement past traffic collision data to help inform the development of the Local Roadway Safety Plan. The results of the analysis and community feedback will be used to recommend strategies as well as implementable low-cost, high-impact countermeasures based on the Local Roadway Safety Manual for the State of California.
This effort is funded through a grant from the Caltrans Systemic Safety Analysis Report Program (SSARP). The objectives of the grant include:
- Analyze specific roadway systems to identify highest occurring crash types
- Use collision data to identify high-risk intersections and corridors
- Use collision reduction factors to identify appropriate low-cost countermeasures
- Involve the community in recommending short and long-term improvements
