The City of Hermosa Beach will host the 22nd annual Surfers Walk of Fame during the weekend of April 24–26, 2026, honoring five individuals who have made lasting contributions to the sport of surfing and South Bay culture.
Honorees Laurie Wilson, Lonnie Argabright, Tyler Hatzikian, Pat Rawson and John Van Hamersveld will each be formally recognized at the Induction Ceremony on April 25th at 11:00 a.m. on Pier Plaza.
The annual Surfers Walk of Fame weekend is a longstanding Hermosa Beach tradition honoring the surfers, shapers, artists and industry legends who have shaped the culture of the South Bay and the sport of surfing. Each year, honorees are nominated by their peers and selected by a panel of judges across categories that include Pioneer, Champion, Female Legend, South Bay Legend and Cultural Legend.
This year’s Surfers Walk of Fame weekend events begin on Friday, April 24 with the Surfers Walk of Fame Kickoff Event and South Bay Surf Awards at the Hermosa Beach Community Center and the Hermosa Beach Museum. The Induction Ceremony will be held the following day, Saturday, April 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Pier Plaza, followed by the Spyder Surf Fest featuring vendor activations and live music at the same location at 1:00 p.m. The weekend will close with the South Bay Boardriders Club Surf Series on Sunday, April 26, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., held south of the Pier.
The Surfers Walk of Fame is a special Hermosa tradition, and this year's class is one we can all be proud of: South Bay locals, surfers, shapers and artists who collectively pushed their sport, surf culture and our community forward,” said Hermosa Beach Mayor Mike Detoy. “We’re excited to celebrate them here on Pier Plaza alongside their neighbors, family and friends.”
More information about the 2026 Surfers Walk of Fame honorees can be found below:
- Female Legend Laurie Wilson: A South Bay native who grew up in the waters of Hermosa, Laurie was a prominent female surfer who became a top AAA competitor, winning many local competitions including the AAA International Surf festival. She was a trailblazer for women’s surfing, setting an example for other female surfers through competitions and in the line-up.
- South Bay Legend Lonnie Argabright: A lifelong surfer and supporter who has had a tremendous impact on the South Bay surfing community. Lonnie was a founding member of Haggerty’s Surfing Club (as well as its current president) and rider for a number of surf teams, including Jacobs, Dewey Weber, Becker and Rip Curl. At 14, he was the model and inspiration for Rick Griffin’s iconic “Murphy” cartoon character in Surfer Magazine.
- South Bay Legend Tyler Hatzikian: A prominent surfboard manufacturer/shaper who is widely respected in the longboard sphere. He starred in Jason Baffa’s surf film “Single Fin Yellow,” in which a surfboard he shaped was sent around the world to surfers who ride it and pass it on. He has also surfed in many longboard events and competitions, while capturing some of the biggest waves in the South Bay.
- Cultural Legend Pat Rawson: A prolific surfboard shaper who developed some of the most popular blanks and rocker profiles in the 80s and 90s, Pat also helped create a “low tolerance” blank board with Clark Foam that saved thousands of liters of potential waste from surfboard production. His work has had a large impact on board design and manufacturing, emerging as one of the most prominent shaper of big wave “gun” surfboards in the world.
- Cultural Legend John Van Hamersveld: An artist best known as the creator of the iconic “The Endless Summer” poster, which popularized surf culture on a global scale. His artistic work ranges from surf posters to Surfer Magazine to record jackets for artists like the Beatles and the Beach Boys.
