The City of Hermosa Beach has announced that it will partner with Culture Club South Bay, a Manhattan Beach–based nonprofit organization focused on youth programming that celebrates diversity and inclusion, to host a free, inaugural beach camp for underserved youth beginning Sunday, April 26 at the 13th Street Lifeguard Tower.
Culture Club’s first-ever Hermosa Beach camp will run on select Sundays during April and May (April 26, May 3, May 10 and May 17) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Community volunteers will supervise and help teach participating youth beach sports, including surfing and volleyball, as well as art, learning and ocean awareness activities. Participants and volunteers will receive complimentary snacks and enjoy lunch at Good Stuff on The Strand.
“We’re glad to welcome Culture Club South Bay to Hermosa Beach,” said Hermosa Beach Mayor Rob Saemann. “Programs like this create meaningful opportunities for kids to make lasting friendships, learn new skills and enjoy our beach and community.”
Culture Club South Bay provides beach-based programming for underserved youth ages 8–13, with an emphasis on activities that promote education and connection. The program was originally established at Bruce’s Beach in Manhattan Beach to commemorate the site’s history and create opportunities for youth to learn, play and build friendships while experiencing the beach.
Registration for camp participants opens Monday, February 16. For information on Culture Club South Bay’s beach camp and volunteer opportunities, please visit https://www.cultureclubsb.com/.
