The City of Hermosa Beach began issuing 2026 dog licenses and renewals on Monday, September 15th. Dog licenses are required for all dogs four months or older in Hermosa Beach and serve as proof of ownership and rabies vaccination, as well as providing a convenient way to reunite lost pets with their owners.
Licenses may be purchased and renewed online or by mail, fax or in-person delivery to the Revenue Services Division at City Hall, located at 1315 Valley Drive, Room 101, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254. Residents must submit the completed application, proof of rabies vaccination and payment.
Dog licenses must be renewed or purchased every year, and the 2026 renewal period runs from September 15th, 2025 to October 31st, 2025. If a license is not purchased in that time, a 50% late penalty will be applied. To obtain or renew a license, dog owners must provide proof of rabies vaccination valid through September 30th, 2026 by a licensed veterinarian.
The cost of a dog license is $112 for non-neutered or non-spayed dogs and $27 with proof of sterility. Residents age 60 and over are eligible for a reduced rate of $56 for unneutered or unspayed dogs and $13 with documentation. Service dogs may be registered free of cost with proof of certification; however, emotional support dogs do not qualify. Replacement tags may be purchased for $6.
Owners of dogs new to Hermosa must obtain a license within 30 days of moving to town, and puppies must get a dog license within 30 days of their first rabies shot. Penalties may apply if these conditions are not met.
