Vetter Windmill Temporarily Closed for Public Safety
The historic Vetter Windmill at Greenwood Park has temporarily closed off access after an ongoing engineering report identified serious structural concerns. To ensure public safety, the area has been cordoned off with caution tape, and signage has been posted advising the public to stay clear. City crews removed the windmill blades on Thursday, July 24, and will use a crane to address the immediate hazard by removing the remaining assembly from the wooden tower on Friday, July 25, as next steps are determined. For more information, please visit City’s website.
Valley Park Tree Removals
The City of Hermosa Beach will begin removing 10 dead, dying and diseased trees at Valley Park during the week of July 28 to August 8 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. as part of its ongoing work to maintain public safety and protect community spaces. To preserve the park’s green canopy and ensure minimal disruption to the environment, all removed trees will be replaced at a 2:1 ratio, with 20 new trees scheduled to be planted in the months ahead. All removed trees will also be inspected prior to removal to confirm that no active bird nests are present. The tree replacement plans will be discussed at the September 17th Public Works Commission Meeting at 6:00 PM. For more information, please visit City’s website.
