On April 29th, Hermosa Beach City Council voted to appoint Mayor Pro Tem Rob Saemann to the position of Mayor and to name Councilmember Michael Detoy as the new Mayor Pro Tem. We wish them both all the best in their new role as we shape the future of our best little beach City.

Fiesta Hermosa
Fiesta Hermosa will be hosted by Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce from May 24-26. Community members and visitors are invited to enjoy local food, vendors and music. The festivities will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 24th and will run through Monday May 26th. This year’s event will feature over 250 vendors along Pier and Hermosa Avenues, a carnival, live music and more.
As a friendly reminder, local parking will be limited and we encourage everyone to walk, bike, or use public transportation where possible. For friends who may be visiting from out of town, the park-and-ride will be offered again this year and will be located in the Northrup Grumman lot in North Redondo Beach. Further information on parking and transportation can be found on the Fiesta Hermosa’s website.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training
The City will offer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on Saturday, June 21, and Sunday, June 22, in a convenient hybrid format. This FEMA-certified course prepares local volunteers to protect and assist themselves, their families, and their neighbors during a disaster.
Participants can complete the lecture portion online, with in-person sessions focused on practical, hands-on emergency response skills. To learn more, visit the “HbCERT” section under Emergency Preparedness on the City’s website, and visit the Los Angeles County Fire website to register.
Memorial Day Closures
As we approach the Memorial Day holiday, the City would like to inform residents of several updates to City services and facility schedules. City Hall and the Community Resources Department Offices will reopen for in-person services on Tuesday, May 27. During the holiday weekend, the Community Center and other recreation facilities will remain open and operating according to their regular schedules.
Please note that on Monday, May 26, street sweeping and Pacific Coast Highway parking enforcement will be temporarily suspended. However, all other parking regulations will continue to be enforced as usual.
In addition, there will be no trash collection on Monday, May 26; service will resume on the following scheduled day. The Police Department and Public Works Department will remain fully operational throughout the holiday. For non-emergency assistance, residents may contact the Hermosa Beach Police Department at (310) 524-2750.

Bike To Work Day
The City would like to invite residents, local employees, and visitors to take part in Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 16th, as part of National Bike Month. This annual event encourages everyone to consider a more sustainable, healthy, and fun way to get to work. Cycling to work helps reduce traffic congestion, lowers your carbon footprint, and contributes to a cleaner environment. It’s also a great way to get some fresh air and incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Whether you're an experienced cyclist or just getting started, Bike to Work Day is a great opportunity to try something new while supporting an eco-friendlier community.

In Case You Missed It
On April 22, the City Council hosted a special evening with Congressman Ted Lieu to celebrate and support two vital community programs, HbCares and the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). The event highlighted the significant impact both initiatives have made in enhancing community well-being and public safety. Congressman Lieu presented two major federal funding awards, $1 million for the HbCares program and $963,000 for the RTCC, marking a powerful investment in the future of Hermosa Beach.

The What the Fuzz (WTF) 5K brought our community together for a morning of fun, fitness, and connection. Whether running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, everyone played a part in making this event a success. It was a celebration of community spirit, wellness, and togetherness. Thank you to all who joined and helped make it such a memorable day.
