HERMOSA BEACH – The City of Hermosa Beach today announced it will receive $963,000 in initial federal funding to begin developing a Real Time Crime Center Project. Once completed, this state-of-the-art project will leverage new technology to provide real time information to Hermosa Beach Police Department (HBPD) officers and detectives who are working in the field and investigating reported crimes.
U.S. Representative Ted Lieu secured the federal grant funding at the request of the City of Hermosa Beach to equip HBPD with the most up-to-date technology and resources to continue to improve public safety. This initial funding allows the City to begin a multi-phase, multiple-year project to assess community and policing needs, establish a technology infrastructure to support real-time data collection, analysis and dissemination, define procedures and build out the Project accordingly.
“This investment represents an important first step in ensuring our police department is equipped with the latest technology to continue to keep our community safe,” said Hermosa Beach City Manager Suja Lowenthal. “We thank Congressman Lieu for his continued commitment to Hermosa Beach’s safety and well-being. This funding is just the latest example of his unwavering support for our city, having also helped Hermosa obtain $1 million in federal funding for our Mobile Mental Health Pilot Program in 2023.”
Once completed, the Real Time Crime Center Project will support HBPD’s crime prevention programs, reduce response time and help the department better partner with local agencies to continue to keep the community safe. It will provide first responders with critical information to specific incidents in real time, provide situational awareness ahead of officer arrival and enhance the department’s overall investigative capabilities.
“One of the best parts of serving in Congress is being able to bring home federal dollars for important local projects,” said Rep. Lieu. “This money will go directly back into our community for projects like making pedestrian sidewalks safer, protecting communities from landslides and helping vulnerable neighbors secure housing. These projects will make our community safer and healthier. I am pleased to have fought for this funding and look forward to seeing how our local governments and organizations will use these funds to make our community even stronger.”
