AN URGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HERMOSA BEACH AMENDING SECTION 17.04.040 AND CHAPTER 17.21 OF THE HERMOSA BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS AND JUNIOR ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS AND DETERMINING THE ORDINANCE TO BE EXEMPT FROM CEQA
Notice is hereby given that on December 13, 2022, the City Council of the City of Hermosa Beach adopted Urgency Ordinance No. 22-1456U that amended section 17.04.040 and Chapter 17.21 of the Hermosa Beach Municipal Code Relating to Accessory Dwelling Units (“ADUs) and Junior Accessory Dwelling Units (“JADUs”). These amendments were necessary to align the City’s regulation of ADUs and JADUS to the recent changes in State law. Specifically, these amendments allow, in certain circumstances, for certain ADUs to be built higher, ADUs to be built closer to the property line in certain circumstances, that a front yard setback must yield to allow a minimum size ADU be built on the lot and to codify certain procedural requirements regarding the treatment of ADU/JADU applications.
The Urgency Ordinance was adopted on December 13, 2022 by the City Council by the following vote: AYES: Councilmembers Detoy, Saemann, Francois, Mayor Pro Tem Massey and Mayor Jackson; NOES: None; ABSTAIN: None ABSENT: None.
